The final verse of this chapter reveals that David's wife was barren all the days of her life from this point on. This verse hints at the cause.

Yesterday we took a dozen young people out to do good and heal the oppressed and that's exactly what they did.  I have never known a more tender yet bold group of students.  I will truly miss them when they go to Borneo for missions next month. My little girl came and sat down and put her head on my shoulder.  Traci knelt down to snap a picture and instincively Sara put her little "shaka" up in the air.  This is the Hawaiian wave.
